Aquatic Avifauna Surveys in the National Park and Wildlife Refuge

After an abortive first attempt at Caño Harold - cancelled due to torrential rain - Jo and Steph finally took a team out on the longer of the National Park survey routes on Tuesday, and had a good survey in perfect weather.

Species spotted included a great blue heron (Ardea herodias) and sungrebe (Heliornis fulica) but unfortunately the boat-billed herons (Cochlearius cochlearius) remain elusive.

Rich P lead a team on Caño Chiquiero, where things were quiet, but on Caño Palma in the Wildlife Refuge they clocked up 22 birds, half of which were kingfishers.

Beautiful photos - especially the extraordinary view of the Boat-billed Heron - well done!
