At Least some saw it, don’t be Bittern

Dave and Cody took out the new 5 weekers out for some hot bird action on the happy front. The crew saw many of the usual birds but also some unusual birds. It was the last turn on the way to Tortuguero on the left hand side in the weeds where things went down.

Slowly trolling along the group spotted a bird that seemed to hop out of the weeds and then back into cover. Cody looked to Dave, not sure what he just saw, and Dave just smiled and nodded which reassured him it was what he suspected. What the group saw was a rare sighting of a least bittern (Ixobrychus exilis), but not just one, they saw both a male and female. The group also saw a purple gallinule and rufescent tiger-heron to name a few of the rarer bird species.
