On the happy action front

Diogo Veríssimo (Head of Science), David Jones (Field Coordinator) and Rebeca Chaverri (Country Director) are becoming quite the team when it comes to gaining international recognition for the expedition.

Last November, Diogo represented the trio, and the expedition, at the Mesoamerican Conference for Biology and Conservation in El Salvador, winning first prize at the congress – Best Presentation – for a compilation of the results from the Jaguar Predation of Marine Turtles study in Tortuguero National Park.

Then, in February, the follow up to that original piece was invited for presentation as a poster at the International Sea Turtle Symposium in Australia – again Diogo took up the call and Veríssimo, Jones & Chaverri were discussing their ideas on an international stage once more as the turtle world learned the name GVI Costa Rica.

Just a few days ago there was new triumph for the triumvirate as they received word from the Society of Conservation Biology (SCB) that they had been invited to give a presentation at this year’s conference in Beijing based on the abstract submitted entitled Volunteers in Conservation: Can anyone make a difference? (In case you’re wondering, we think yes…).

So in less than nine months Veríssimo, Jones & Chaverri for GVI Costa Rica will have had work at three of the most important events in the conservation world and completed a lap around the world.
