Green season night patrols come to an end

After four consecutive nights with no records of green turtles (Chelonia mydas), Thursday of this week saw the last of the 2008 season's night patrols. Though it is sad to see the old ladies leave for another season, it also brings joy as it marks the peak of the green hatchling watches.

Morning Census has also changed to accommodate this shift, with targeted nest watches beginning as a separate survey this week to look for the emergence of hatchlings from previously recorded greeen turtle nests, over 436 for this season as compared to 803 nests in 2007. The number of beach cleans are also on the rise to help the hatchlings on their way to the Caribbean Sea.
